I know I shouldn't be surprised. syreene brought this article to my attention, and while I'm sure the gentlemen being quoted probably would not have made this quote had he been intelligent or educated, it still amazes me. I should take it with a grain of salt, but it annoys the snot out of me.

I'm sitting here with a runny nose of righteous indignation.

"It took 30 or 40 years to eliminate God in school, it will take probably 30 or 40 years to get him back. You take a little step first, a little bite, then another little bite and another," said Steve Farrell, a nursery keeper, who dreams of the return to prayer in class.

I thought God was everywhere? I didn't know he has been eliminated...in school.

You would think if your religion is so strong and powerful, you wouldn't need to pray in the classroom.

Oh, and if you take the time to study, you won't need to pray in order to raise your grade.

Another LJer - baronmind takled this idea in one of his entries. He made up his own theory and called it the Ouroboros Theory. The whole think sparked a conversation about the use of the word "theory". Although Darwinism may be a theory, there are daily discoveries which push it closer to "fact" although it will never likely GET there. "Intelligent Design", however, is merely an hypothesis, and as there is nothing to yet prove, for example, that dino's and men walked together, it will never get beyond an hypothesis. It CAN'T. Calling it "Intelligent Design" - a term I firmly belive they stole from a car commercial - is nothing more than an attempt to stop themselves from looking so incredibly silly. They want to make this thing "scientific" as well, and they can't.
It happened back a long time ago when Jesus got a change of birthday and Ostara became Easter etc etc, and it's happening now. It's just more riding on coat tails to look legit.
Keep the religion in churches, keep the learning in school.. or take your kid out.
