London hurting...

scarcrest brought to my attention the community of london_hurts. I think it's a bit over the top to think that people find solace in being a fellow londoner, even though you don't live there, and saying that you hurt. Perhaps I'm just insensitive, but I don't want to hear about how other people hurt because I hurt. I don't want other people to hurt; I don't like other people to suffer for the sake of my own suffering. I don't feel any less pain as a result of that. Especially since the grief cannot be shared. In the case of the London bombings were experienced directly by a few thousand(or so) Londoners who were around the blast, and we Americans saw it on the news.

I don't think we should be wasting our time hurting, either. We should dedicate ourselves to solving the problem of terrorism, or get on with our lives, or both.

But that's just me.

Brits and other nationalities were doing the same thing for us after 9/11. Sure, we aren't British, but does it hurt to actually feel their pain for another country for at least a day or two, even if we weren't there? Maybe some of the Brits aren't into reading sympathy messages, but then they don't have to read them. And who knows what the next step might be? I'm just thrilled to see my countrymen give a damn about a country other than our own for a change, especially one as ethnically diverse as England.
