Well, for the holidays, I endeavored to make an apple pie with a leaf crust on top.

Before I made the pie, I had to make careful preparations. First, I had to ensure that Sascha didn't jump up and try to play with my pie fixins. So I sat with him, loved him, and gave him a little slide show demonstration showing that I would use his intestines to string my racquet if he tried any "funny business". He was a good boy.

Then I had to cut out each leaf, roughly 50 in all, for the covering of the pie. Here is the pie, and the leaves in the background.

Finally, after an hour and twenty minutes of baking, here is the final product:

You can use a cutter, if you find one, but I did this by hand. Take a small knife and cut away! After the first 10, you get a feel for it and also you cease to care if it comes out perfect. After all, leaves in nature come in all shapes and sizes.

I suppose, for a little eye-brow raising fun at family gatherings, you can carve marijuana leaves and see if anyone notices.

(Or, poison ivy, if you're abivalent--or worse--about your family...)

I LOVE the cat-gut photo! You should enter it in an animal photo contest.

Uh--to avoid "unexpected visits" from the ASPCA, preferably a contest for The Tepid Animal Owner unless YOU know some animal lovers with a sense of humor...

I guess if you're up for a challenge, a thistle would be the way to go.
