I'm home again!

My Christmas was quite pleasant, thank you very much!

I got some text messages from various folks. Sprintpcs apparently doesn't like to include the sender's address, so I am not sure who is sending me messages. I can only venture a guess based on context. :-)

Sascha and Tessie are starting to get used to each other, but it's still tense. Sascha wants to be friends, Tessie can't be bothered. But we suspect they might have been sleeping on the same bed while we were gone this afternoon, so perhaps they are just playing a joke on us and Tessie is merely pretending to be snitty-cat.

There is some drama going on amongst a few of my cousins. Kinda funny.

I noticed the drive-thru at Jack in the Box was really busy around 2ish today. What causes this? Perhaps it was that they were the only fast food joint open in the vicinity, and there were some folk that had to work. Or, perhaps it was people getting a "snack" before going to someone's home for their homecooking. Somewhere between Jack in the Box's drive-thru and a home-cooking catastrophe lies hell, my friend. Oh, yes.

I got some wonderful gifts, and I surprised my mother with a gift she did not anticipate. She wanted a new multi-function printer. Instead of dragging in the box for an obvious big-ticket item gift, I was crafty. At my home, before leaving, I took pictures of the gift with Sascha crawling all over it, checking it out. Then I printed those pictures out and put them in a gift bag.

When she opened this gift, she was nervous. "Was she just giving me pictures of the cat?" she was thinking. "Oh," she said, "These are pictures of Sascha." She sounded rather perplexed. "But mom," said I, "what is he sitting on?"

Then she gasped. She didn't see it coming. Score for Anne. She was quite pleased. I'll add this to the list of my red-herring gifts. I must do this for my Mother is inquisitive and wiley about finding out what gifts are. Previous successful ruses include:

1. Burying great Les Mis tickets under a pile of rocks. "Oh, you gave me Christmas rocks..."
2. A series of odd gifts hinting at a travel destination. A copy of Lewis Carrol's Alice in Wonderland, a map of Monterrey, etc.
3. A bag of my textbooks, detracting attention from the computer I bought her a few years back.
4. A large disk. She had no idea what this was, but it was the top part of a bird bath for her yard.

Well, 'tis late and I wish not to sleep. Some hot tea and some reading should do nicely. Come morning, work shall resume.
