Anyone watch the Daily Show last night?

Did you see Jon Stewart talk about gay marriage with William Bennett? Jon just unzipped and pissed all over Bennett's talking points.

The footage Stewart showed of Republican congressmen extolling the virtues of marriage to society were quite telling. There's increase stability, fewer substance abuse problems, extension of longevity, etc. All good things. Why would we want to deny any citizen of such benefits? Just because of a line or two in the Bible?

I wonder if this is really more of a "follow the money" issue for the Republicans, and they are using the religious position to simply gain more votes.

Didn't catch the DS last night, sadly, but i don't think there's any question that this is simply a matter of pandering to their most vocal (and prety much only remaining) supporters and, as you so aptly noted, following the money. The religious right is really the only consistent suport that this administration has left, and that's where their money and voters come from.

In 100 years people will look back on the rights we have denied gays and view it with the same distaste we view slavery.

It's ridiculous in 2006 that this is even an issue in this country.

Silly rabbit, they don't want GAYS living longer, with no drug problems and stable lives. They want them dead of AIDS (God's plague), from a drug overdose, or homeless and on the streets. Now that is what God wants for 10% of his children.

Who will these people hate when the GAYS are quashed, hetros who like to put some spice in their lives. Can't wait for the sodomy laws to come back. Maybe they can be on the books right after the Anti-birth control laws.
