A Lost Moment

After watching Season 2 of Lost, I realized I had a Lost moment recently.
So, the survivors on the island found a hatch at the end of S1. Now, come S2 they found a hermit who was living in this hatch and entering a 6 number code into an old computer every 108 minutes. He does this because he believes that the world will end if he does not do so. So, Locke and the others therefore believe it.
Yes, this is the part where you think, "Thank goodness no one told them you have to jump off a cliff to save the world!" Yes, thank goodness, indeed. That would cut the series short.
So, at work we have doors that open automatically upon swiping a badge through the badge reader. Initially ,to exit these doors, one did not have to run a badge or press a button. One merely had to open the door.
One day, a red button and a sign appeared next to one of the doors we use frequently. The sign said, "Failure to press the exit button will sound the Alarm".
I was faced with a conundrum. I found it inconvenient to press the button, but if they did install an alarm system, I didn't want to disrupt the work environment by triggering an alarm. Would I be causing problems for security? Would they pester me or my boss about it later?
So, I decided to press the button, fearing repercussions from security at best, and an annoying alarm sound at worst.
I just talked to a coworker about it and found out he just opens the damn door.
And so ends my Lost experience.
