Yes, Apple announced the iPhone at last.

Here's a reasonable analysis of the iPhone.

And here's another from Time.

Like the writer above, I probably won't be rushing out to buy one. I've got an SDA and right now, that's doing just fine. Also, there's a matter of Cingular being the provider. Not too pleased with that, though arguably, it does have better signal at home. Oddly, my personal cell performs better at work, whereas my work phone performs better at home. Dammit.

Anyway, the iPhone is dead sexy, and it should work well. I like the notion of a fully functioning browser...one that syncs up with your internet shortcuts on your computer. However, what if you don't use Safari? If that's the case, I may not be too thrilled.

So, I got time. I want more than 8G of storage. If I'm going to spend 600 and switch to cingular, I want a heckuva lot more.

Well, they said the bookmarks will sync on the Mac *or PC*, and since Safari doesn't exist on the PC, if that's true it must sync with other browsers there.

I'm sure they went with Cingular because they're GSM, like most of the world. Sprint and Verizon are CDMA - and CDMA just isn't popular in the rest of the world. This way they have one design that they can use globally - which is why it is a Quad-band phone, or a 'World Phone'. If they ever sell them unlocked, you could use it with T-Mobile too, as they're also GSM.

This will probably be a boost for Cingular.

Yes, i currently have Tmobile. I am hoping Apple expands its partnerships.

I think they said Cingular has a multi-year exclusive on the iPhone, didn't they?

I didn't catch that, but I'm sure it's likely because apparently Cingular had to really change some of their technology to make this happen.

I use Firefox, and there is a great little Google bookmark sync plug in that I installed. It uploads my bookmarks and last visited page so that when I jump on another computer with it installed it downloads the bookmarks and asks if I want to return to the last page I had open. Very cool and it sounds like this has the same capability.
