You know, there are way too many supercool music festivals that occur far far away from me. There's the Download Festival in Donnington, UK, there's the Austin City Limits festival. And then there's Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee.

Bonnaroo is happening right now. It apparently coincides with Hypericon, a speculative fiction con that I know [livejournal.com profile] scarcrest, [livejournal.com profile] reannon, and [livejournal.com profile] ariedana are attending right now. And it's right down the road from them.

You my adorable con-freak friends, are down the road from one hell of a music festival, and I can't even live vicariously through you.

Balls to that, I say. BALLS.

Look at this lineup:
The PoliceTool • Widespread Panic • The White Stripes • Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals • Wilco • The Flaming Lips • MANU CHAO Radio Bemba Sound System • The String Cheese Incident • Franz Ferdinand • Ornette Coleman • Bob Weir & Ratdog • Damien Rice • Ween • Gov't Mule • Ziggy MarleyThe Decemberists • The Roots • Kings of Leon • SuperJam feat. John Paul Jones, Ben Harper and Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson • Michael Franti and Spearhead • Wolfmother • Regina Spektor • The Black Keys • Galactic • DJ Shadow • Gillian Welch • Spoon • Keller Williams (WMD'S) • Sasha & John Digweed • Lou Donaldson & Dr. Lonnie Smith Quartet • STS9 • Old Crow Medicine Show • North Mississippi Allstars • The Hold Steady • Lily Allen • Fountains Of Wayne • David Murray Black Saint Quartet • Hot Tuna • Feist • Hot Chip • Mago Feat. Billy Martin & John Medeski • John Butler Trio • El-P • Ralph Stanley & the Clinch Mountain Boys • Ravi Coltrane Quartet • Aesop Rock • The Richard Thompson Band • Dierks Bentley • James Blood Ulmer • Xavier Rudd • The Philadelphia Experiment • David Bromberg and Angel Band • Gogol Bordello • Junior Brown • Tortoise • T-Bone Burnett • Mavis Staples • Don Byron Plays Junior Walker Feat. Chris Thomas King • Clutch • Pete Yorn • Stefon Harris & Blackout • Cold War Kids • Dr. Dog • Scott Amendola Band Feat. Nels Cline • Paolo Nutini • Brazilian Girls • RX Bandits • The Nightwatchman • The Slip • Lionel Loueke • Girl Talk • Railroad Earth • Martha Wainwright • Yard Dogs Road Show • Rodrigo y Gabriela • Annuals • Tea Leaf Green • Sam Roberts Band • The National • Elvis Perkins in Dearland • Charlie Louvin • Sonya Kitchell • Robert Glasper Trio • Mute Math • The New Orleans Klezmer Allstars • Jacky Terrasson Trio • Apollo Sunshine • Stanton Moore Trio • The Wild Magnolia Mardi Gras Indians • Uncle Earl • Doug Wamble Quartet • The Little Ones • The Black Angels • Ryan Shaw • Gypsy Hands Tribal Belly Dance • Firecracker Jazz Band • Miss Lolly Pop's Burlesque Coterie & The Sideshow Bennie Experience • Eenormus Sidecar

Musical greatness is just a short drive away and you're at a venue with events entitled Midnight Spam Slam. Gah! Agony!!

Seriously folks, I'm sure you're having a great time, and you're doing what you want to do, but ....dadgummet.

Oh, that's a travesty. But, hey, work is good. :-)

As close as Bonnaroo is I am not going. The heat, the $9 bottles of water, the drugs, the traffic...I felt old every time I even thought about buying tickets.

Surely you can bring your own water, as there are camping facilities.

I had always heard the campsites were separated from the stages but I just checked and you can bring empty bottles for water. Cool. They "bought the farm" this winter maybe it changed now that they own the land.

Believe me, waaaaaaay too fucking hot to hang around outside with a bunch of sweaty hippies, no matter how cool the bands.

90,000 people--they can't all be hippies. ;-)

1.) Bite me.

2.) Aw, puddin.'

3.) Being around 300 people at a con was hard enough for me. The only way you could get me to Bonnaroo would be if you put me in a coma, and I'm pretty sure I'd STILL escape.

1)*Chomp*
2) Pudding!

3)Okay, okay, so y'all might have issues with heat and crowds. You're excused.

I have no problem with crowds whatsoever. But I'd much rather hang out in an air-conditioned hotel with 300 geeks than sit in a field with 85,000 people listening to music I don't like. :)

Yeah. I bet I'd have a really good time with you Dragon Ladies at DragonCon (just 30,000 people) -- if I were in a drug-induced coma. :)
