Here's an interesting take on the resentment of the iPhone price reduction.

I still am not sure about the Monopoly example. I didn't think the iPhone was a Monopoly. However, it stands to reason as indicated in the past, that Apple's prices will be cut or a replacement product with more features will be offered at the same price later.

So for those folks who feel cheated because of the price reduction: no one forced you to buy the iPhone early. You were overcome by toy lust and you hastily bought a product. If you weren't already upset over the price and costs of ownership, well, you're terrible with money anyway, and couldn't be trusted with the $200 you might have saved anyhow.

The iPhone was very expensive - but you can see that didn't stop me when I needed a PDA phone. The iPhone will stay in the expensive range but be improved over time. They have stopped the 4G unit - and since the new iPod has a 16G flash drive, there will be a new iPhone with that soon.
At this point I have another year in my Sprint contract - and will then re-evaluate. I suspect there will some bomber Linux phones out there......

Yeah, the iphone doesn't offer me anything more than I have with my Tmobile device currently.

However, come October 2008, when my contract is over. Well, we'll see what' s available then!

I believe they're offering a $100 refund to early iPhone buyers anyway. I thought that was more than they needed to do.

Not a refund, per se. In Store Credit. So, sure, if you can buy exactly $100 of stuff, fine. But that might be tricky in the Apple Store! :D

Hell, I still don't have an iPod. I'd take it. :) Of course, since my cell phone was constructed with chewing gum and an abacus, I'd take anything.
